I highly recommend the bereavement counselling sessions I’ve received  from the Bromley Counselling and Bereavement Service.  Prior to losing my father I never had any form of counselling and had an initial reticence about seeking any help to work through my feelings and grief. This reticence proved completely unfounded. The sessions have been hugely beneficial for me and they are conducted in a relaxed, yet very professional manner.  Equally important for me is the confidentiality in which they take place. I also found the counselling very good value for money and wouldn’t hesistate to use BC & BS again should the need arise. Thank you Valerie for your expertise and patience in helping me through one of the most difficult parts of my life I’ve yet had to face.

I am a Chartered Psychologist working as an expert witness in family law. I have sent a number of clients to the Service over the years for bereavement issues and for general counselling where loss is one issue. Anyone attending can be assured of a professional, personal and highly effective service. The Service has my highest recommendation.

I saw Valerie for over two years and it helped me tremendously. She is brilliant at what she does. She gives a you an open, non-judgmental space to speak about what you think and feel. She gives you a fresh perspective on things which helped me digest what I was experiencing. She helped me find the strength and courage that I have inside of me to make some big, positive changes in my life.

I first met Valerie in August 2016 some three months after my wife of 51 years had died in hospital.I was in a state of some shock after the funeral and interment but had tried for three months to pull out of it on my own. It eventually became clear that I needed some help. My  doctor recommended BC and BS and having been warned by a friend who had done some counselling that the first appointment could be extremely difficult I was greatly relieved that it had not been and that it had gone quite smoothly. I was impressed and encouraged by Valerie’s wish to see photographs of my wife and children and it soon became apparent that she understood where I was coming from. Her advice on how to cope with periodic bouts of nervousness especially when alone and on how to begin to build up my confidence to restart driving were important. Further advice on how to deal with feelings of anger towards for example the hospital and certain relatives was equally important. Although I started consultations on a weekly and then a fortnightly basis, the fact I am continuing on a monthly basis speaks volumes for the trust I have and the high regard with which I hold Valerie’s work. Although there must have been other important factors in my recovery such as the strong support of close family, friends and neighbours and doctors, the contribution of BC and BS has proved invaluable.
